Bing’s new search experience puts AI-generated answers front and center while pushing traditional search results to the side.
The new layout for a small number of queries, fills your search results page with AI-generated summaries addressing various aspects of your question.
Here is a gif showing how the results look

And this annotated screenshot shows layout of different elements in Bing’s Search results which is generated using AI.

This will be tested for some users and Bing team in their announcement mentioned that they look forward to sharing more updates about it in coming months.
In terms of which countries this new Bing Generative Search will be available for test users its not clear as of now because there is no specific mention of region or country in Bing’s announcement.
I’m interested in knowing this – that’s why I’ve asked Bing team on X to provide info about it. If I get a reply, I will update here.
Moreover Google’s AI Overviews – showing an AI generated answer at top of search results I think are totally different because it moves the usual links in Search Results down while in case of Bing it moves to right hand side.

Therefore more visibility for site owners and I think that more likely hood of users seeing those links and clicking through would be high but we need to wait and see.
Though I don’t have access as a test user – I noticed an amazing X thread about this by Mark Traphagen.
Here is what he posted 👇
In one of the tweet in thread he posted about “differences between Bing Generative Search and Google’s AI Overviews”
Differences from Google AIO
1. Sources are prominent and displayed mixed in with the AI result
2. (IMO) much nicer presentation of the AI result
3. Result divided into logical sections with a table of contents
Also I hope that we will not see random weird & funny answers generated by Bing Generative Search Generative AI – more about it in my tweet below 👇
But do note that even Google has been testing lot of UI changes for AI Overviews – most recently ones are showing links icon and a new layout for listing citation URLs and saving function. There are more tests as well which I have shared in my AI Overviews News Tracker.
Let’s see how this Bing Generative Search evolves over time – what I will be watching out for is quality of answers, UI and CTR to citation links. I think that these would be some metrics that will lead to users deciding between Google’s AI Overviews or Bing ones AND at the same time CTR to citation links will be something that site owners need to watch out for.
If no users coming to site and everything is being served in search results by Google & Bing or any other AI powered engine then what’s purpose of creating more content – if monetisation of it is not possible in any way.
