Yesterday on 19th Dec 2024 Google launched a spam update!
Today we released the December 2024 spam update.

But SEOs on Twitter (X) aren’t happy about it! You can read more about this update in this story from Search Engine Land (which now is officially Semrush Land becasue Semrush bought them)
I was expecting a spam update that’s why I posted this on X and just around a day after that Google released the spam update.
Even though the current update which Google is rolling out is spam but not specifically Link Spam Update, but I’m expecting Google releasing a Link Spam Update soon! (Why – well I explained it in this LinkedIn post that I posted earlier today).
And in terms of impact of this spam update, I’m closely watching SaaS startups which over the months have levered up programmatic SEO + full AI content to publish 1000s of pages and ranking in Google’s Search results. I assume that just like what Google did with this startup with recent December Core Update (leveraging same programmatic SEO + AI content) I expect Google to further down rank pages which are created at scale using this approach.
Also I think that most of SEOs and creators are unhappy about this update and the replies on X are insane!

I noticed that well known SEO tools providers both Semrush and Ahrefs were impacted by this update. While Semrush lost positions Ahrefs gained.
