Google Discover the feed in Google App is a surface which shows most recent content – it can be news or something which Google deems would be interesting for a specific user. This is how it looks like 👇

Here is what’s happening

Android Authority reports that upcoming versions of Google App may have “Updates from searches” option promising “Summaries from the freshest top stories on your interests.” If you’re not super engaged with the app, and don’t spend a lot of time liking posts or setting up topics to watch, simply using your search habits to dictate the stories you’re probably interested in reading sounds like it makes a lot of sense.

How “Updates from searches” look in Google App

Here is a Youtube video showing this – it was also posted by Android Authority on their Youtube Channel.

When this will new UI will be rolled out in Google App

We don’t know.
I confirmed this with Android Authority’s Shiv.

Some thoughts about Google Discover and Why Publishers relying on it as a primary source of traffic should be careful

Only issue with Google Discover is that its always changing and even after being fully aligned with Discover’s content & technical guidelines a site still may end up loosing complete visibility within days. That’s why Google has recommended to not rely solely on it for success of your business (& revenue) because it can be super volatile.

Optimising to be shown in Google Discover is one of thing that I do day in & out. One of the main benefit which I even use as a selling point while talking with publishers – Google Discover is fast as soon as an article is published on a site it may end up being surfaced in Discover in minutes. That’s why it matters and is a big source of traffic, therefore revenue for many publishers.

And recently Google is testing showing social content (specifically Reddit) in Discover feed and on top of this I think that Google made some changes in Discover algorithm with August Core Update which has impacted many publishers too.

And with this new filter coming in I think that things will get more volatile!!
