Last week Google updated the search console performance reports to add functionality to see 24 hours view of data which continuously updates to show the most recent hourly data. This change was done by Google on 12th Dec and for almost a week now I have been using this to see pages which are performing the best in Google Discover hourly basis.
I think that this view is amazing given that GA4 don’t provide a clear option to sort the data in reports by source/channel set to Discover (which I wish they should). As the data of Discover is clubbed together in other reports in GA4 and no option to specifically sort for Discover that’s why its always been a challenge for me to have a clear data view of Discover performance on hourly basis.
As in the case of Discover specifically because time senstivity and what’s getting published on the site matters a lot to achieve the best daily performance (as many clicks as possible 😄) that’s why can be useful to know what’s performance best every hour.
This new performance view in Google search cosole Discover performance report can be used for studying
“What type of content doing well in Google Discover?” every hour and that can be leveraged to either double down on well performing content the same day or adjust the content of stories that are going live later in the day!
For this you can regularly export the report (every 2 hours) and see which new URLs are showing up in each period and which are dropping off.

As this report went live just last week, just for some analysis I have been exporting the report manually every couple of hours and doing comparison analysis using Gemini in Google’s AI studio. But at the same time I’m working on building formula based Google Sheet that can do this automatically.
Once that is done, I would be able to do this daily analysis at faster pace and hopefully all the insights extracted can be leveraged to scale the visibility of client’s site in Discover and get more clicks & traffic to the site 🤩
