A few days back I published this blog post about Google updating some News & Discover Manual Action policies back in Oct – Nov 2024. But at the same time when I noticed that change in policies, I also noticed that Google made some changes in spam policies for Manual Actions too.
As I posted on X Google added Scaled Content Abuse spam policy back in March 2024 (this change was done along with start of roll out of March 2024 Core Update) and somewhere between 7 to 15 April 2024 there was a change on Manual Actions page.
“Pure Spam” became “Major Spam problems”
And a mention of violating Scaled Content Abuse policy was included there.

One of the interesting thing which I noticed with this change is Google clearly saying that for scaled content abuse, they may issue a “Major spam problems” manual action.
Even though online or even while talking with site owners from around the globe I’ve never heard any site getting this manual action for doing scaled content abuse (if you know of any please let me know via msg on LinkedIn or by filling this form).
Frankly I don’t like sites which are doing scaled content abuse specifically using AI without any editorial input from Humans and even with recent December 2024 Spam Update I noticed Google de boosting sites doing this in search results.
And I’m happy that Google do have a manual action for such kind of bad practice which mostly lead to ruining of Google’s Search results, which I don’t like at all.
