Late May 2025 – Google Indexing Issues

Regarding the recent drop of pages from index around end of May -> folks been asking me on LinkedIn if I’m seeing return of those back in index! Nope nothing has been reindexed. Across properties I didn’t push for request indexing back in Search Console but some people who told me on LinkedIn that they are trying that, even its not leading to reindexing. I think its not worth the time to request indexing, if Google to index those now deindexed pages they will automatically without having to specifically push for it.

I think that for some sites its been really high sudden click loss but I’m not sure why suddenly Google decided to drop the pages out of index at scale. I guess given it was a broad drop across 10s of sites that I’ve access to in Search Console and a lot of other people have also reported similar drops on X. So many screenshots of people saying Google dropped their pages out of index in replies of this X post from Barry Schwartz.

And also these replies from UK based SEO Consultants Darth Lyndon and Peter Mindenhall is something which I found really interesting. As Darth mentioned and then I somewhat speculated “Sudden drop across the board on 27th might have come from a change to their systems assessing low-quality, low-value

idk if Google will reverse this change or not! Or we will see some of these now deindexed pages come back in Search Results. But from what I’m hearing in businesses based out of APAC its a big click loss for many, an example of which I shared as a X post.

I will keep an eye out and if automatically these pages start to come back in results or there is any another update from Google about this. I will post on X.

Also today on 16 June I noticed that people on Reddit have also lost a lot of traffic because of this sudden drop in indexed pages.

While just one Japanese SEO shared that their pages are coming back in index without them making any changes.

Adding on 24th June, today I talked to this site and same story of bulk deindexing of pages just adding up to a lot of traffic lost.
I posted a tweet about this.
