Learning about Healthcare before taking on Healthcare businesses as my SEO Clients

Its been almost five years since I have been doing SEO.

And since then I’ve worked with the variety of clients. Starting from like really small businesses plumber, electrician to medium-sized businesses like tech companies selling IT infrastructure management and in some cases executive training programs.

Most of these businesses  operates in multiple cities here in Australia especially Melbourne and Sydney

But over the years I’ve conducted so many small scale SEO tests, observed their results and went back to client with more data getting the resources to scale those tests and achieve amazing ranking results.

Perhaps my expertise and SEO strategies can also work well for healthcare businesses as well but its not something that I have done earlier – looking back in last 5 years I have declined to work with so many Healthcare businesses.

I don’t know but I feel like if its not something that I actually understand I will not be able to advice properly.

I think that doing SEO for a specific business as a Consultant starts with understanding the business rather than being a expert in SEO.

Like I studied Computer Science at Swinburne University of Technology so I do have amazing understanding of IT and whenever I work with tech startups which sells something like a software product – I’m pumped and super excited.

Because I know that every strategic SEO decision which I’ll be making for this client will be something that I totally understand end to end.

Like if I’m presenting a specific content strategy to client – I can explain different technicalities of what I want their content team to write. Or in some cases I have written IT content for client sites myself because I understand it.

As I don’t understand Healthcare end to end that’s why I have always restricted to not take on any Healthcare related client.

And also I was just not interested in the topic as well. I’m a tech NERD 😂

But since March many Healthcare businesses have reached out to me through reference of my previous and current clients.

That’s why I’m thinking to learn about industry and planning to take on these kind of businesses as my SEO client.

I think that B2B Healthcare would be an interesting avenue to explore for me, also recently a Healthcare business reached out to me – if I’m guessing it correctly that was in last week of June.

They are like a platform of specialists – different healthcare professionals can submit their resumes and work experience to them and they match it across the different hospitals who are looking for that specific expertise.

Kind of like a super niche version of job boards like Indeed and Seek.

It’s almost like requirement providing for Hospitals – so the process is like Hospitals reach out to this business and then they source an appropriate candidate for them – either through their internal collected database of professionals or by publishing a job on their site & other platforms as well.

Then this business conduct initial interviews and help Hospitals to do final interviews as well.

Through SEO they wanted to expand on two things
Getting more hospitals to reach out to them for recruitment
Increasing number of professionals in their internal database – getting more healthcare professionals

Writing informational content which might be searched by those kind of the healthcare professionals when they are looking for a job. This might be a good strategy to increase number of professionals in their internal database which is something that they as a business want to prioritise.

That is the one part which they wanted me to focus on and the next part is hospitals.

They want to rank for keywords like hospital recruitment agency and other similar ones.

Previously I have worked with some conference type of businesses where target was to get attendees through events and get sponsors for those events as well.

So one is focusing on “selling tickets” keyword cluster and another is targeting other businesses which are looking to sponsor different events.

I do think that the SEO strategy which I applied to that business could have worked really well for this particular Healthcare business as well but again as I mentioned at the start of this blog post – I need to learn about Healthcare first and then only starting taking those kind of businesses as my SEO clients.

That’s why I ended up saying no to this Healthcare business.

Over coming months I plan to learn more about the industry itself – understand it properly and I would say end to end workings then start on taking Healthcare businesses as my SEO clients.
