Noticed this Reddit post in r/seogrowth in which someone was asking about learning SEO and specifically “Whom should I follow? Where should I read? Who gives in-depth knowledge on this?”

Here is what I wrote as a reply.
Whom should I follow?
No one, I would say rather just follow through by taking action. Think of whatever you know in terms of topic and can write about. Then just get some basic web hosting, a domain and setup WordPress.
And learn by doing it, and as you are trying to figure out different things along the way I would say read long blog posts rather than watching YouTube videos, long form reading will provide you more context around how others are exactly thinking about problems while videos generally are filtered down version which I think isn’t the best to get broad understanding of things.
Where should I read?
– Search Engine Land
– Search Engine Roundtable
– Search Engine Journal
– Google Search Central
And on top of this just use some AI answer engine like Perplexity (that’s what I use everyday) to get quick answers about your questions. And also I would recommend to read broad conceptual things about SEO and then filter down to actions by your taste.
You would have to develop your very own understanding of broad things like backlinks or internal links.
Read about these concepts and then think of ways how specifically you can approach it, plan it, present to client (or involved stakeholders).
Your own taste is what you should be moving towards I think, because over the years what I’ve learned is its just your own way of approaching SEO things, what matters.
Who gives in-depth knowledge on this?
Don’t try to seek “Who” per say! rather do it and on the way whatever problem/issue you face according to that look for solution on Google and other AI answer engines.
And discover people through that way, I can mention some names but then you would just to their sources and try to imitate their SEO things.
Which isn’t the right approach, that’s why earlier I mentioned you have to develop your own taste of different SEO things and only right way to do that is to just do it, face the problems, try to find solutions and discover names on the way rather than starting with names & going through whatever resources/courses they have put out.
