I was asked why most of SEO analysis/studies just mention big sites – it’s because that’s what sells best to attract enterprise clients.
Meanwhile with any update or even on going ranking volatility most impact/change for ranking is in small to medium size category.
Almost like if Amazon loses 100K position ones it will still have millions of position ones but if a medium size site does then it becomes a small site.
But showing the analysis about large sites helps to attract more large sites aka Enterprise clients while the SEO skills are put to test when you have to deliver amazing results with a limited budget plus a shorter timeline that’s for SMBs aka Small to Medium size businesses.
I too work on Enterprise projects too but whenever any internal SEO team contact me for that it’s mostly to get input about internal project will be rolling out over 6 months to 1 year period.
They seeking external feedback because goal is to preserve their existing traffic and not loose any of it. So just wanted to make sure that new internal project is alright from strategic SEO perspective and will not cause any harm to existing rankings.
While for SMBs it’s to grow the existing traffic and timeline is quarter on quarter and need to work on multiple projects at the same time. Otherwise not much improvement in short period of time.
But again putting that work out as analysis or research doesn’t attract Enterprise clients for which lead value is higher and work is more strategic rather than implementation heavy.
I have seen many examples where existing internal SEO teams have told me that they reached out to someone before me and ended up realising that they have mentioned working with another Enterprise in their profile/website.
But that was just 1 hour call lol π and people have leveraged/marketed it for years to get more Enterprise clients.
I’m not sure if one hour call with Enterprise team is something that proves someone expertise around strategic SEO π€£
But again it’s always interesting to know about what’s going on in the outside market and how people are using different marketing tactics to attract new high value Enterprise leads.
Just these Enterprise leads being high value is the only reason I think most SEOs want to put out research and be associated with Enterprises that’s all. But real stress test of SEO skills is still SMB category I think.
That’s all this specific question keeps on coming up in my conversations with startups these days, whenever marketing teams are on hunt for SEO consultant they always comes across SEO Research.
Which shows how they have studied or analysed impact of core update but actually it just shows movement in Enterprise category of sites.
Again do your own research, go around the market, do calls with different SEOs get to hear what they have specifically worked on. Then make a choice I think that’s the best way to figure out who will be able to deliver amazing ranking results for your startup.
Again SEO insights of any type doesn’t have much correlation with what ranking results any SEO will be able to deliver for your startup.
