Over last couple of days I noticed Shopify automatically adding some new rules in robots.txt file.
Exactly its adding this
Disallow: /products/-[a-f0-9][a-f0-9][a-f0-9][a-f0-9][a-f0-9][a-f0-9][a-f0-9][a-f0-9]-remote
Disallow: //products/-[a-f0-9][a-f0-9][a-f0-9][a-f0-9][a-f0-9][a-f0-9][a-f0-9][a-f0-9]-remote
Disallow: /collections//products/-[a-f0-9][a-f0-9][a-f0-9][a-f0-9][a-f0-9][a-f0-9][a-f0-9][a-f0-9]-remote
Disallow: //collections//products/-[a-f0-9][a-f0-9][a-f0-9][a-f0-9][a-f0-9][a-f0-9][a-f0-9][a-f0-9]-remote
After doing some digging I saw this one from Shopify saying that remote products feature will be going on 9th Oct 2025 for select group of eligible US-based stores and its an optional feature. Even though as of now all of my US based eCom clients don’t have access to this feature but still in few cases in robots.txt Shopify automatically added these new features.
I think I’m not alone cuz yesterday even Saijo George (who is also based in my city Melbourne and have been doing for a long time) told me that he is also seeing same for couple of his clients.
I guess it might be that Shopify is planning to roll out these rules in robots.txt by default or it might be something else idk.
