Earlier today while taking with a SaaS company based out of Singapore and discussing who they should be including in RFPs for Australia. They brought up a lot of research that they have been doing to find right agencies and shared the research Google Doc with me.
In which I noticed mention of this listing page from Zyppy List “14 Top SEO Companies in Australia We Trust – Aug 2025” which from the first look of it seems an alright page with good enough information. But its not comprehensive at all.
And to me its really concerning that well funded VC backed SaaS companies are relying on such restricted information to decide who they should be including in RFPs where contract value and the duration of relationship is going to be years too.
And the biggest issue with these kind of listicles is that they aren’t research based rather its submission based. Which means anyone reading these pages should be aware of the fact that its not reflection of growth truth rather its just listing agencies/consultants who reached to this site (Zyppy List in this case) to get included in this listicle page.
Like StudioHawk is our competitor but that doesn’t matter! if they aren’t on this list “14 Top SEO Companies in Australia We Trust – Aug 2025” there is something wrong with the creator of list. Even though we compete with StudioHawk but still can’t deny the fact that they also do good work and are the top SEO company in Australia but still not on this list.
That just goes to say the list is not curated based upon research and isn’t a reflection of ground truth rather it’s created by accepting submissions from whoever reached out to Zyppy List for getting included.
And also its surprising that even First Page Australia, Impressive Digital, Shout Digital aren’t included in this list while from my perspective these should be.
But anyway what matters more is being a site which create comprehensive research driven listicle pages rather than it just being something like submission where a brand can literally fill in a form & get included in the list. Also over the years Google have demoted ranking of sites which are doing this kind of approach listicles creation but still many of these pages are ranking (which I think shouldn’t rank).
But still to this day in 2025! Listicles are great content type which works really well to acquire links which of course benefits the overall SEO of site! But even in that case of using listicles content as part of links acquisition strategy I think its better to be research driven listicle rather than what I said earlier submissions driven.
